As Good As It Gets
Romans 16:25-27 (God Is) As Good As It Gets Catalina Foothills Church
How foolish we are my dear friends, when we look somewhere else than the gospel to be strengthened in the Christian life, as we so often do, and lose sight of the fact that all strength is mediated to us exclusively in the Gospel of Jesus the Messiah. –Sinclair Ferguson
The vision (of Romans) is of God’s ability to establish the multi-ethnic church, of which Paul has been dreaming, and to strengthen its members in truth, holiness, and unity. – John Stott
When we consider this gospel of the Lord Jesus---predicted, revealed, proclaimed, and calling us to faith and obedience-through-faith---we join Paul in giving glory to the only wise God. –Tim Keller
-- When you hear someone talk about the “power of God”…. What images come to mind? Miraculous physical healings? Tremendous emotions? Big change in a circumstance? Would you agree that for Paul, the power of God is displayed when someone is saved and strengthened by the gospel of Jesus Christ? Does this feel too “mundane” for you?
-- How are you pursuing being strengthened through Christ in His gospel? Strengthened in truth against error? Strengthened in holiness against temptation (towards sin and/or being too easily satisfied)? Unity against division?
-- Where, besides the gospel of Jesus Christ--do you catch yourself looking—for strength? Repent and belief the good news!
-- The spreading of this gospel of Jesus Christ to all peoples. How central to your understanding of being a follower of Jesus is participating with Him in this spreading?
-- Perhaps in your group you might get the same version of a Bible and read Revelation 7:12 aloud, together. Loudly !

Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
in light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise
