Trust The Lord Daily and Have Faith Like Daniel as you Face Your Own Lions
When I look at Daniel and his life, I continually see his strong faith in the Lord and his consistent devotion to Him. Daniel was a humble, uncompromising servant of our Lord. His unashamed boldness and his unwavering integrity are something to strive towards. Daniel held onto his beliefs and trusted the Lord at all costs. He was willing to sacrifice everything for his beliefs. Daniel’s willingness to face the lion’s den brought Glory to God.
Daniel led a consistent life. He prayed and devoted himself to God daily. Daniel’s faith and trust in the Lord is what helped him in the lion’s den, because he had a personal daily walk with the Lord. Daniel had built a relationship and trusted in the Lord, so he was not afraid to stay the course and also face an unfathomable situation.
Daniel became distinguished above all other high officials and satraps because an excellent spirit was in him. Because of this, King Darius planned to set him over the whole kingdom. Then, the high officials and satraps sought to find a ground for complaint against Daniel, but they could find no ground for complaint or any fault in Daniel (Daniel 6:3-4). So, they convinced the King to enforce an injunction, suggesting that whoever made a petition to any god or man for thirty days, except King Darius, would be thrown into a den of lion’s.
Daniel continued to pray and held true to his devotion and faith in his God, as he had always done. When the men saw him praying in his window, they reminded King Darius of the injunction he had signed, so the king was forced to throw Daniel into the lion’s den, though it pained him to do so. The king was unable to sleep knowing Daniel was with the lions and in haste, arrived early the next morning to see what had become of Daniel.
“As he came near to the den where Daniel was, he cried out in a tone of anguish. The king declared to Daniel, “O Daniel, servant of the living God, as your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions? (Daniel 6:20).”
Then Daniel said “O king, live forever! My God sent his angel and shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not harmed me, because I was found blameless before him; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm” (Daniel 6:21-22).
King Darius then made a royal dominion that said, “People are to tremble and fear before the God of Daniel, for he is the living God, enduring forever; his kingdom shall never be destroyed, and his dominion shall be to the end” (Daniel 6:26).
Daniel’s unwavering and consistent devotion and trust, and his willingness to not compromise his life and his beliefs in unashamed boldness, had a profound impact on King Darius and the people he served.
Daniel’s small acts of diligent obedience and continual devotion on a daily basis, made all the difference when he was faced with a larger, life-threatening trial, and because of his consistent devotion to God, he was able to prosper and make a difference, ultimately furthering the kingdom of God.
I hope we can look at Daniel and remember that we need to have a daily, on-going relationship and commitment to our Lord. He will give you the courage and the strength you need, if you trust Him with the small details of our lives. Then, when we are facing our own lion’s den, we have the faith and trust to completely turn our situation over to Christ. This will leave us with the peace and assurance that He “has it”, and like Daniel, we can triumph and silence the lions of this world.
